I found a county of origin in National Archives records related to my GGrandfather's pension file. I requested the civil war pension records for my maternal great-grandfather, Andrew Nugent from the National Archives. The records included three years of correspondence between his widow, my great-grandmother Mary Guinan Nugent and the Commisioner of Pensions, presenting her case to receive a widow's army pension. This correspondence gave me new information, including her parents and brothers names, and the date, town, and county in Ireland where (she claims) she was born as well as dates and addresses when and where the family lived in Troy and in Baltimore. The pension files from NARA are expensive ($75 minimum) but for me they provided info I don't think I would otherwise have found.
