My GG grandparents John CUSHING (b ca 1812) married Eliza KELLY (b ca 1820) John and Eliza married in Bruree, County Limerick 1842 I believe her parents were William Kelly and Elizabeth Russell. No hint of his family in Ireland (but that is another brick wall) John's declaration of intention filed November 1844 - I haven't found his Naturalization They are in the census through1860 (misspelled as Cushion that year) then they disappear. Cannot locate them in the 1865 NY State census. Maybe John in city directory in1867 as Cushan then they disappear. Can't find any death records for either one The children (Maria, Ellen/Nellie, William, John and Elizabeth/Eliza) would have been between 9 and 22 years old in 1867. Oldest daughter Maria "Cushan" is in city directory in1868 but I don't see any of the others; other kids might have been too young to list in the directory. Can't find them in the 1870 census. Children are again in the Census in 1875 with oldest daughter Maria as head of household. First daughter Maria was baptized at St Marys Catholic Church in 1845. One baptized at St. Peters. As adults, three of the children were buried in St Peters - Maria (d1927) Ellen/Nellie (d 1928) and Elizabeth (d. 1946) but no record of the parents there that I can find. Any suggestions on where else to look to try and determine when John & Eliza died?
When you say you haven't found death records, have you checked the "Mt Ida" Troy burial records (which contain more than just burials in Mt Ida)? In my own research, scanning these records for the 5 year period after the last census in which someone "disappeared" often revealed a death. If you find a burial, you can check if there are cemetery records for others in the same plot. Could they possibly have gone back to the old country? -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity.
