Hello, I am doing some research for a client and I'm wondering how I can find marriage information from around 1862 and birth information from 1873. I know New York didn't record civil records until after 1880. The family I am researching is Michael Fitzpatrick who married Maria Murray around 1862. I know they were Irish Catholic and even though they moved to New York City around 1880, Michael was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery when he died in 1904. I am also trying to find birth/baptism information for their son George M. Fitzpatrick, who was born in Troy in 1873. Can anyone help? I'm not sure which church they may have attended, but I assume it was St. Marys. Jaime Aulet
hello all... I sadly can't help Jaime but..... My cousin's son Liam Murray Bell, of Glasgow, Scotland, has written and published a novel on the Irish Troubles. Title: So It Is. He studied at the University of Belfast, has married a nice Irish girl :-) and did research on all the troubles as his curiosity on that part of the world increased. Sorry for shamelessly promoting his work...but I think it's a topic many of us would enjoy reading about. I believe you can order this from Amazon and barnes and Noble. Enjoy! Good Morning Jaime: The records for St. Mary's Church, Troy are available at the Troy Library and can also be obtained through the TIGS website. Bill, Thank you very much for the information. I have checked the look-up list from the website, but do not see a listing for St. Mary's in Troy. Am I missing it? I looked through the list about 4 times and didn't see it. Jaime, Since it appears there isn't a TIGS volunteer who has the books for St. Mary's, I'd suggest calling the Troy Public Library and asking the Reference desk if they can do a lookup. Depending on how busy they are, they might do the lookup on spot. The phone number is 518 274 7071 Good luck! Lynn
Jaime, At one time I had a set of books for St. Mary's but there were very few lookup requests and I decided to donate my set to the Rensselaer County Historical Society in Troy since there was a set at the Troy Public Library. Hi Jamie, St. Mary's Church records are now at St. Joseph's. I checked through the Marriages for Michael Fitzpatrick and Maria Murray in 1861, 1862, 1863 and 1865. I didn't find anything. Are you sure it was St. Mary's? I did find a Baptism for George Murray Fitzpatrick son of Michael Fitzpatrick and Maria Murray, for I think March 17, 1873. I never took Latin in School, so I had the Priests translating for me. Sponsors were : Wilhelm Murray and Maria A. Mackey. I hope this helps.
