O'Connell, William Conley Irish World Oct 24, 1903 TROY. The centenneal of the martyrdome of Robert Emmet was celebrated at Douchy Hall by all the divisions of the A. O. H. in this city. Adjutant Philip J Ryan of the Hibernian Rifles called the assemblinge to order, and Dennis Maloney was made chairman. State President M.J. Slattery, of Albany, gave an address upon the life and character of Robert Emmet. The glee club of Div. 6, A.O.H. consisting of James H Morrissey, John J O'Brien, Lawrence T Behan, Thomas F Murnane, James F Lyman, Kyran J Devery and William T Ranney, rendered vocal selections after which James J Barrett of Syracuse, spoke about the life and death of Robert Emmet. Vocal solos were also given by James H Lyman, K J Devery, Thomas F Murnane and J H Morrissisey with D.D. Crough at the piano. The meeting was brought to a close by all rising and singing, 'God Save Ireland.' Irish World Jan 3, 1903 ALBANY.-Patrick Maher, whose cigar store was widely known as a place of resort for prominent men, and who was an old and respected citizen, died Dec 17 from cancer of the throat. He was seventy years old. Michael Dunigan, who died at his home, 186 Beekman street, Dec 15, was born in County Cork, Ireland, eighty-five years ago, but had resided in Saratoga Springs for the past fifty years. He is survived by his wife and two sons, William and John Dunigan. Irish World April 15, 1899 ALBANY.--The friends of Sergt. Lonergan of the First Precinct are sympathizing with him in the loss of his wife, Elizabeth Flanagan, who died at her home, 128 Eagle Street, April 2. The funeral was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Miss Emma Jordan of the North End and James Cuthber of the West End were married at the Sacred Heart Church April 2 by the Rev Father Peyton. Miss Lizzie Peacock was the bridesmaid. Edward Cuthbert was best man. An extended tour through the South will be taken by Mr & Mrs Cuthber, after which they will return to Albany. Miss Elizabeth Nugent, youngest daughter of John T and Cecelia E Nugent, died April 2 at here parents' home, 78 Lawrence street, after a brief illness with typhoid fever. Her death came as a terrible blow to her parents, her sister Minnie and her brothers, James and John, as well as a large circle of friends. Her funeral was held at St Joseph's Church, where a High Mass of Requiem was celebrated. District Council No. 5, C.B.L., held a grand rally in Union Hall on April 12. After the rally a reception and luncheon was held at Keeler's. He will visit Montreal and other Canadian places. HAPPENINGS IN TROY. Fair Opened in the Church of the Sacred Heart: The fair for the benefit of the Church of the Sacred Heart opened last week. The fair will continue for ten days. The proceeds will go toward liquidating the church death. A Young Thief's Successful Raid on the Christian Brothers' Money Drawer: An enterprising young theif walked into the Christian Brothers' Academy one day last week and told the Brother Director that the chimney was on fire. The Director ran out to investigate when the sneak thief investigated the Brothers' drawer, taking there from $150 with which he decamped. Irish World April 23, 1898 ALBANY.-The county convention of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the A O H of Albany County was held in Ring's Hall, Cohoes, recently. There passed away April 4 at HOOSICK FALLS one of the oldest and most respected residents of that village in the person of George Campbell. For thirty-five years this much esteemed and venerated citizen took a deep interest in every enterprise concerning the welfare of the town of Hoosick Falls. Surviving the deceased are three daughters, Mrs M Ryan, Miss (sic) Hugh Reilly and Miss Angela Campbell. Among the relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Andrew J Campbell of Scranton PA; Dr G O'Malley of Bennington VT; Misses Josephine and Maggie O'Malley of Brooklyn; Samuel Morris and daughters, Samuel Cady, Mrs William Millington and George Thompson of Troy. Curley, Donahue, Griffiths, and O'Brien, students at the Provincial Seminary, Troy NY, left for Rome on the 15th inst, to complete their studies for priesthood at the American College there. HAPPENINGS IN TROY Edward Murphy's Medal Found While workmen were excavating for the foundation of the new Federal building last week a gold badge valued at $24 which had been lost several years ago by Edward Murphy, son of Edward Murphy, jr., was found. Mr Murphy won the medal in a swimming contest and valued it very highly. Death of Anna E Byron Anna E Bryon, sister of the late Thomas E Byron, died on the 5th inst, at her residence, 369 2nd street. She was for several years a teacher in one of the public schools of the city. The funeral took place from the house and subsequently in St Joseph's Church, where a Requim High Mass was said. Irish World Jun 10, 1899 ALBANY, --The annual retreat of the Catholic clergy of the diocese of Albany was held at St Peter's Church at Saratoga last week. With ceremonies elatborate, yet fitting, observance was made at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception May 28 of the silver jubilee of the ordination of the Rev Francis D McGuire, who for the past thirteen years has been its rector. A solemn High Mass in the presence of the bishop was celebrated at 10.30. Rev Father Walsh was master of ceremonies, Rev Father McGuire celebrant. Rev Father Fitzgerald, chancellor of the diocese, deacon, and Rev Father Lynch, sub-deacon; assistants were Rev Dean Duffy, of Rensselaer, Rev Dr Rocker?, of Washington; Father Leonard, of Troy, and Father Ottenhues, rector of Holy Cross Church. Bishop Burke's jubilee sermon was a merited tribute to Father McGuire. At the end of the religious exercises, the Han. Thomas J Lanahan delivered an address on behalf of the congregation. Father Walsh next eulogized the work of Father McGuire and in a well-worded and eloquent discourse made the presentation address. He presented a purse of $11,500. At six o'clock Father McGuire entertained at the dinner in the parish house the Bishop, the visiting priests and the priests of the parish.
