I would like to start with a question. Is TIGS registered as a non profit? Now for a suggestion. When a person joins they must be somehow entered into the computer. If we use a spread sheet then there is a number next to our name. If we published a list with dues status then we would know our status regarding dues. Another suggestion, if we are not a non profit could we become one. That way folks that would like to donate to the cause could. Last suggestion. Raise our dues. If that isn't a popular idea then raise our dues and give credits to those that do so much work. I agree with Jim about raising the dues. I live on Long Island but joined TIGS because of my interest in researching my family (thank you Mary Lee Dunn). I am so appreciative of all the work that is done by volunteers that people, like myself, benefit from. I would gladly pay $20-25 per year to help support this wonderful organization. Jim, we are not registered as a non profit. When the group was real young we discussed it and it seemed very complicated. Now that we have grown and have tremendous input and help from all the list members as well as local folks we really should look at the process again. I will ask for it to be on next months agenda and see where we go with it. I know there is so much more we could do with the non profit status. Your suggestion for a list with dues status is also helpful. We will have to check with Jeanne, our Webmaster, to see if it could be added to the website or perhaps Lizette, our Treasurer could post to the list several times a year. As to the dues, Tim already answered that question. We should look at the charter to see if there are restrictions. BUT if we obtained non profit status we could leave the dues affordable for all and accept donations from those that are inclined to give that extra bit of help.
