This morning I was advised by a list member, and by an Unsubscribe message from RootsWeb, that she had been unsubscribed from our List. When I re-subscribed her to the List I included the following explanation as I understand it: Thank you for notifying me that you wish to remain subscribed. The reason for your removal was probably because a certain SPAM operation used your email address. There have been many, many of this type of SPAM message recently and the RootsWeb management have had to set up an automated way to stop the flow. The Spam messages at present have two identifying characteristics: 1. The Subject Line is usually blank and 2. There is a one-line URL in the message and no other text. The List Administrators will no longer see the actual message, only an 'Unsubscribe Notice.' I am assuming this is what has happened to you. It is our understanding that a very large number of 'AOL' accounts were hacked into recently but the Spam messages are not all from AOL customers. One suggestion that might or might not help for the future - "Change your account password on AOL". I don't know if your address will be used again so we will give re-subscribing you a try. Let me know if it happens again. Regards, Brad Miter, TIGS List Administrator
