Mike, coincidence or what!! I did the look up for you, my maiden name is Cooney. Then you find John and he was married to a Catherine Cooney.....now if I could only connect your Catherine to my Cooneys!! For some reason last night I got curious again about the John Boland mentioned below in the missing friends ad that Kris Cooney had so kindly looked up for me. Years back I had poked around on ancestry.com and there were sparse records for AU so I just gave up and accepted that I would probably never find a breadcrumb that would lead me to this brother of my GGgrandfather Lawrence Boland who migrated to Melbourne. But as it turns out Ancestry must have added quite a few more sources for Australia. I ended up finding an indexed death record that was the correct name, approximate age to be a brother, and with both correct parents names. I was also able to use index parameters to find a short list of marriages and births (of John Boland children) that could be for the correct John Boland, and some turned out to be for the right person. Then I located 2 trees that had been posted since I last looked with the name John Boland 1831-1880 and the one listed him from Ballymore, Westmeath and with the same parents (with matching maiden name) as my Lawrence Boland. I was pretty glad to find that, haven't had that little genealogy discovery 'rush' in a while. I contacted the 2 people who posted the trees and one responded quickly, so far. John Boland married a Catherine Cooney (born Jan 1833 in Galway, Ireland) in Victoria AU in 1861. What is even more interesting is that their daughter Catherine Boland, married an Edmund Crowe, who was born in Emly, Tipperary in 1850. The woman in AU who emailed me also said that much of the Crowe family from Emly , emigrated to Troy, NY.... Edmund Crowes parents were Patrick Crowe born 22 MAY 1815 in Breansha, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. Mother was Eleanor Hanley born 17 DEC 1820 in Lisobyhane, Emly, Tipperary, Ireland. Just wondering if Crowe is an interest of any of the TIGS members?? Never say never. -Michael > From: [email protected] > Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2005 21:23:25 -0500 > Subject: Re: [TIGS] BOLAND - Irish Relatives and Friends 1850-1871 > To: [email protected] > > Hope this is yours Mike......Nothing on Bernard.....Kristin > > Of JOHN BOLAND, formerly of BALLYMORE, County WESTMEATH, Ireland.
