    3. TIGS Friends, I received the following email message on Tuesday. The message speaks for itself and Liam OK'd my posting it here in case any TIGS members can help. "The piece" I wrote, to which he refers, is the story of my Dunns that is posted on the TIGS web site, FYI. This is at least the third message I have received out of the blue because of that posted story. Just so you know the extent of TIGS' reach! In a subsequent message, Liam explained that he thinks James' father's name was Phillip and yesterday I did find a Phillip McNally in the parish of Carbury, Kildare, listed in an index of names in Griffith. Liam's email address is at the end of his message. He's not on TIGS list-serv so if anyone posts anything helpful to him here you might copy it to him as well or I will forward it to him. Thanks for everything. Best, Mary Lee Dunn Dear Mary, First let mecongratulate you on the piece you wrote about the Dunn Family from Derrymullen,Co Kildare which is why I am writing to you. A friend of mine JohnMcNally, Minnesota is the grandson of James P McNally who immigratedto the USA circa 1869-70. He is recorded in the Troy Census. He joined the US Army inTroy on 12 November, 1872 and served in the 7th US Cavalry. Ondischarge after his enlistment period of 5 years was up in Nov.1877 he came eastto Troy and sometime after he married Brigid White who hailed from Galway, who likewise had come to America. We cannot find a marriage cert. He returned toDakota and subsequently after a number of years went to St Paul in Minnesota. He died there in 1893 of Consumption. They had 5children. We have not made any progressin finding where he came from in Co Kildare. John McNally is 86 years of ageand I am 75. Is there any advice youcould give us to help our search? The Dunn family came from Co Kildare as didJames McNally and he also went to Troy circa 1869-70 it is that similarity that promptedme to write to you. Sincerely, Liam Healy 28 Kempton Avenue, Ashtown Dublin 7 Ireland Email:[email protected]
