    1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Question (surname O'MELIA)

    3. Ed - My O'Melia was Mary Jane O'Melia, born c 1845 in Dublin? She was the daughter of John and Julia Kennedy O'Melia. Whether she was actually born in Dublin is not proved. She married John Nicholas Clayton in 1866 in New York City. John was born in Surrey, England of Irish parents from County Cork. He was a tailor by trade. He died in NYC in 1886. He lived for a short period in Troy, NY with his brother Edward in the early 1880's, but returned to NYC. I know that the O'Melia and O'Malley surname is one of the same and that the O'Malley surname is from County Mayo. I often wonder if the the O'Melia's headed to Dublin and on to England to travel to America? Actually, I never found Mary Jane's parents in America. I know this doesn't help you but this is all that I have.
