The Aug 16-17 Civil War Heritage Days event will be a great opportunity for TIGS to host an information table (like we do annually at RCHS for the Victorian Stroll) . If you are able to stop by for an hour or more to help on Saturday (or Sunday), please contact me directly: christine.connell@gmail.com Here's more info about this weekend's events (worth a visit even if you can't work the TIGS table). Schedule to follow. The annual Civil War Heritage Days event is happening on Saturday-Sunday (Aug 16-17) where Schuyler Flatts Park, located in Menands, NY, will be transformed into a small civil war encampment in the time of 1864. You'll be able to watch a battle rage in the open field, with cannon fire and mounted cavalry units in battle and military exercises. You can visit both Union and Confederate camps and experience the daily life of a soldier during the Civil War. The re-enactment is one of the larger of its kind in New York State with over 100 re-enactors, both military and civilian. There will be period music concerts, period clothing demonstrations and depictions of all aspects of daily life during the time of war. There will also be many different educational booths from local historian groups and museums from around NYS.
