    3. I was unable to get in touch with Release of Information at the VA Hospital in Bath, but I did receive mail from the NA concerning Dennis McNamara and thought I would share: Dennis McNamara was born December 11, 1838 in Parteen, County Clare, Ireland. He married Catharine Ryan May 31, 1862 in Rutland, Vermont (but he states in one document that the county clerk there informed him that no record of marriage was kept that year). In 1898 he had three living children: Edward Dennis McNamara, born July 15, 1864 in Burlington, Vermont Mary Elizabeth McNamara, born August 13, 1876 in TROY, NY William Holmes McNamara, born October 25, 1878 in East Albany, NY The rootsireland.ie website turned up a Baptism record for Dennis McNamara, listing: Date of Baptism: 11-Dec-1838 Address: Athleenkard Parish: Parteen County: Clare Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: John McNamara Mother: Anna Holmes Sponsers: John Holmes and Bridget Kelly Does anyone have any suggestions about tracing the family, now that I have linked it back to Ireland? I'm fairly new to searching. Also, if anyone is interested in our family tree as it traces from Ireland, through New York, and to our family, I'd be more than happy to share. 2. Knowing the parish is everything. I had very good luck in County Longford, once I identified the parish--I contacted the pastor of the church, who took an interest in my research, announced my info at the weekly Mass and put it in their bulletin, etc., and this connected me with current day Irish cousins (whom I finally got to meet last summer!). If you can find a link to a parish priest, you might want to give it a try. I sent a letter, including copies of old photos of my ancestors and a little outline of my family as it related to that parish. A quick search on Google reveals the following links concerning Parteen: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/parishes.htm http://www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Parteen/textParteen.htm http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mccarthykathryn/clare_church_records.htm Hope that helps, and feel free to contact me off list.
