I know very little about my Ryan family prior to my great grandmother's arrival in the U.S. sometime after 1872 with four of her children--Patrick, Mary, Anna, and Thomas Francis--following the death of her husband, Thomas in 1871. She and the 4 children mentioned above immigrated to Cohoes from Limerick (though I've been unable to ascertain what town). In addition to those mentioned above, I learned from her son Thomas Francis' obituary that she had borne an additional 4 children--who may have died in Ireland in infancy prior to their father's death in 1871. My great grandmother was Margaret H. Ryan (nee Dwyer) and the original purchaser of the plot in St. Agnes Cemetery in 1891. She was born in Ireland in 1830. The only thing I've been able to learn about her is that a brother or close cousin (Dennis Dwyer) was living in Chateaugay , NY, at the time of her arrival. Her deceased husband, Thomas, was born in Ireland in 1822 and died there in September of 1871. I know absolutely nothing about her husband, my great grandfather, Thomas Ryan other than the year of his birth in Ireland (1822) and his death there (September 1871).
Hi , I know Ryan is a tough name, like Murphy or the more common names, but... I had Ryans from Limerick who settled in West Troy and Cohoes. They were from Adare, more specifically Finniterstown or Drehidtarsna I dont have my notes handy. James Ryan and wife Bridget Duett and kids, in 1852. I would poke around on the IFHF website in the index to see if I could find a marriage in Limerick, but the miscreants went and changed it to a subscription site and not just a credit site. Did you find Thomas in the civil registration death index?
