Hi, I'm a new member of TIGS researching my mother's family who arrived in Troy in the late 1870's and and 1880's. Specifically, I'm trying to find out more about my grandfather, Thomas Collins, and his family who immigrated to Troy in the 1880's. His brother, James, arrived at about the same time, and I understand two sisters, Ellen and Catherine (married names unknown) also immigrated to Troy. There is a connection to the Mulcahy family (Reverend John Howard C. Mulcahy, was my mother's cousin). My mother indicated that the Collins were a large family. If anyone has information about them, please let me know. Fran Scanlon
A Thomas Collins born Cross Keys, Co. Tyrone, married Elizabeth Valance, born in Scotland. Their son, Cornelius 'Neil' V. Collins, was born in Greenwich NY on 20 June 1856 and married Ida Salmson in Troy on 11 December 1879. Cornelius became Superintendent of Prisons in Troy and was active in local politics. Their daughter Mary married Richard K. McGonigal and died in 1982 aged 100. Hope this is the relevant Thomas Collins.
