Monday July 21 ,2008 TroyRecord Article 100years agoTuesday July 21 ,1908 “ A significant clue seems to emerge in the Hazel Drew murder case. Mr. and Mrs. William Hoffey report they had seen a wagon and 2 men at Teal’s Pond near the time that Drew was last seen alive on July 7. They did not see Drew herself. The farmer, Hoffey ,says he remembered the wagon right away when he heard of Hazels death but” If they are the ones who did it and they hear we told it, they may some time get a chance at me and injure me”. The paper reports that what he saw may now turn out to be a journey of 2 men seeking live bait in the shallow water near the edge of the pond. Hoffey also says he recalls seeing William Taylor, Hazel’s uncle, with a young like woman in Averill Park 5 weeks ago and he might be able to identify her as Hazel, whom he had never met. Taylors sister , Minnie, Hazels aunt and frequent companion, gets another grilling by district attorney Jarvis O’Brien.
