Carol, it might be worth a shot to check with the Rennselaer County Historical Society. I was surprised to find they had on record my Great Grandfather's last will and testament, and also a handwritten letter written by my Great Great Uncle Jas. P. Hooley to George Doring dated just before Christmas 1908, to inquire with Doring if there was any work coming up, I would assume for the holidays.
