Wednesday July 16,2008TroyRecord Article100yearsagoThursday July 16,, 1908 “Sherriff J. Irving Baucus has offered a $1000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest of Hazel Drew’s murderer. County Detective Duncan C. Kaye found Drew’s suitcase at Troy’s Union Station. Drews cousin , Minnie Taylor, said she was carrying the suitcase when she boarded a Pawling Avenue streetcar for Watervliet on the afternoon of July 6. Detective Kaye learned that Drew was in downtown Troy on the afternoon of the 7th and left her suitcase with the parcel clerk, Adelbert Atwood. Thomas Carey, who claims to have known Drew by sight says he saw her carrying her suitcase on Congress Street between 4th & 5th streets about noon on the 7th. A search of her suitcase reveals a missing shirtwaist and detectives suspect wherever she stayed the night of the 6th is where she left it. Investigators now suspect she went to Albany instead, possibly in the company of Taylor. Hazels mother shows reporters a postcard addressed to Hazel but sent to the home of her previous employer E. R. Cary from a Carrie Weaver. Assistant DA Chester Wagar tells reporters they know little more than has been published.” Photo of the day Troy Record Tuesday July 16, 2008 1953 photo of Anne and Leonard McHugh on their wedding day. **************Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges?
