ANNOUNCING NEW DATABASE VOL. VI & VII - MARRIAGE INDEX RENSSELAER COUNTY, NEW YORK JANUARY 1924 - AUGUST 1927 A. Volume VI and VII of the ten volume set of Rensselaer County Marriages with their 8,014 names, has now been added to the Troy Irish Genealogy website. You can view these marriage records by going to the Troy Irish Genealogy website at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nytigs/ and click on TIGS PROJECTS. It should be noted that these records, like most of the TIGS data series, cover the general population in the area and are NOT restricted to Irish surnames. B. Researchers having relatives with a RENSSELAER COUNTY, NY area connection, will be interested in these on-line, name searchable, records of 40,014 names of individuals who were married in Rensselaer County, New York. If you live in a nearby county or even further away, (See item E. below), you might want to check out these names. Take a look at the data base, you never know what you will find. You may even find an earlier marriage for your relative that you never knew about. C. The TIGS website has a PRINTABLE FORM that can be used to request copies of the marriage documents from the Rensselaer County Clerk's Office. Mailing instructions and fees (only $5.00) are on the request form. There are SEPARATE request forms for EACH volume. Some of the items on the available documents will be: 1. Name, address, occupation, age, and place of birth of bride and groom. 2. If marriage for each is first, or second. If second, was first ended by death or divorce and when. 3. Names of parents of bride and groom, including maiden name of females, and country/state of birth. 4. Names of witnesses to wedding. 5. Date and place of wedding and name of clergyman, minister, rabbi, etc. 6. Race of bride and groom. D. It appears that all of the postings in Volumes VI and VII of the Marriage Index Book show a office filing date instead of the date of the marriage. However, the entry in the Marriage Book itself and on the marriage documents, will show the date of the marriage. E. In addition to the Troy Irish Genealogy Society mailing list, this message is also being sent to the genealogy mailing lists shown below as the data may be helpful to subscribers on those lists. It has been noted in working on the 40,014 names in this data base, that in many cases the places of birth OR place of residence for the Bride and the Groom can be ANYWHERE throughout New York State, other states and even foreign countries. As an example, one record had the Groom residing and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania., the Bride residing in Detroit, Michigan, born in Jamestown, Pennsylvania and the wedding taking place in Troy.
