Thursday May 1 ,2008Troy Record Article 100years ago Friday May 1, 1908 “The trial of Frank W. Carrington on larceny and forgery charges has started with jury selection. Carrington served as deputy to Thomas W. Hislop from 1902 to 1905 and is accused of pocketing tax payments. An audit in the fall of 1906 revealed a deficit in city funds. The jury selection starts with Judge Addington of Albany County presiding, the judge having swapped cases with Judge Michael A.Tierney, A Renns Co judge. James E. Shaver , a West Sand Lake farmer is excused from jury duty after District Attorney Jarvis asks him what charges Carrington is up on and he replies”Murder, isn’t it?”Stephen Hill , a Berlin carpenter is also excused after displaying disgust with Deputy sheriffs, policemen and all lawyers. Defence attorney Lewis E. Griffith and Judge Addington disagree over Albert Worthington of Wynanskill. Griffith opposes him because he used to sell milk to Assistant District Attorney Chester Wager, Addington rejects this reasoning. Worthington is gone with a peremptory challenge by Griffith. The only Troy juror is Frederick Lansing , a foreman at the Fuller & Warren plant, who says he will be governed by the evidence not by sentiment or prejudice.
