    2. Friday May 2, 2008 TroyRecord Article 100years agoSaturday May 2 ,, 1908 James and Nellie Gorman, are in the middle of a bitter divorce , and he attacks her lawyer John P. Kelly.slapping him,using vile language, poked one of his fingers in Kellys eye and struck him in the face, Kelly tells the court, Judge Wesley O. Howard. He says James Gordon’s attorney, Thomas F. Powers, tore Gorman fron Kelly, but Powers tells the court he saw nothing. The Gormans are suing each other but are in court for enforcement of 10$week child support. Gormans says he only earns $20 a week as an athletic instructor, but Kelly tells the court Gorman operates illegal gambling houses in Troy and Albany, including 88 Congress Street, and earned over $5000.00 last year. Gorman wants the payment reduced to $5.00. Judge Howard orders him to pay 10$ until the settlement of the divorce. Since the alleged assault did not take place in front of the judge he issues a warning to Gorman”he must not insult or assault attorneys and others”. At Rands Opera House is the popular Irish –American singer and composer Chauncey Olcott. At Proctors Theater is vaudeville featuring Wise Mike, the educated dog.He plays on bells,and does acrobatic stunts among other things.Also in the group: George Abel & Company,Alsace & Lorraine Bowers, Walters & Crockers,and the Otto Brothers.
