Friday April 25 ,, 2008Troy Record Article 100years ago Saturday April 25 ,1908 “Troy Police have asked for a payhike to put their compensation in line with comparably sized cities. A committee appointed by the Troy Police Protective and Benevolent Association, consisting of Detective John I. McGuire,Sgt John E. Winne,Patrolman Thomas E. Delaney and Patrolman Thomas Crosby meet with Mayor Elias P. Mann. John D. Boland,a bricklayer, of 166 Hill Street, has been arrested for the second time this week for throwing a flatiron at his sons head..Earlier in the week he was brought in for allegedly firing shots at two of his sons, James A. and David J, but was freed when the sons didn't press charges. Earlier today the elder went to the police station claiming his sons were stealing his clothes but was turned away. James now suffers a slight scalp wound when David partially blocks his throwing arm. All three are arrested , the father for second degree assault, the sons for disorderly conduct. Waiting for Vince to shower and change,then we are off to lunch out,and then the hairdresser. Beautiful morning here,and so we walked the road,and then came back to lawn mowing and yard work.....I love being outdoors,and gardening,but it feels even better when you come in after all that and take a wonderful hot bath. As I was planting flowers out front,the mailman drove up with our mail....a big package from Jan....two interesting books,and a lovely note. Our life here is wonderful,and upstate New York is glorious in early June,but,good lord,how I do miss my tennis buddies,and tennis. Hope that you are both well,and having fun. Vince and I are going to take a summer opera lover's course up here at Union College,and hope to see Kiss Me Kate over at Glimmerglass on Otsego Lake,if Rachel's twins keep to their schedule.
