The day has evolved as nearly the busiest day to pull practical jokes next to Aprils Fools Day, with people sending mock valentines. Postal sources estimate they have handled 100,000 valentines in the last 36 hours while selling 50,000 one cent postage stamps. Patrick J. Shea runs a stationery store and bookstore at 22 Third Street. He says Trojans aren’t buying less but cheaper. The valentines that are more costly were not purchased as much as the five, ten, twenty five or fifty cent kinds. The recent stock market panic is blamed for lower sales.
