    2. Hi, Can you explain what the "indexes"are? How can they help me locate vital records? Are they online anywhere since I am out of state? I am fairly new to geneaology, but I have heard about researching indexes twice this week for clues to my family(Tracy/Ditmyer) who have been very elusive. There just doesn't seem to be any solid documentation on the family members and I cannot afford to keep sending away for records only to get a reply indicating nothing was found. Also, does an index in NYS Archives in Albany list vital records for Troy and Watervleit/Green Island or would I need to look elsewhere? Thank You for all your helpful information, Vic -------------- Original message -------------- From: "NANCY J. CURRAN" <nancycurran@prodigy.net> > Austin's question brings a question to my mind.
