Saturday June 28, 2008 TroyRecord Article 100years agoSunday June 28 , 1908 “The City of Watervliet today hold a parade to celebrate a 50th Anniversary of a popular Catholic priest,Rev William F Sheehan.of St Patrick's Church.The 76 year old priest , a native of Fermay in County Cork, Ireland was ordained 50 years ago.Pope Pius X has sent a message of congratulations to him. Mostly every building is decorated and both Catholic and Protestant churches tolled their bells as the parade moved along.The fire alarm at 23rd Street was also sounded. The festivities close with a band concert for 4000 spectators on the lawn in front of the electrically illuminated church.An estimated 3000 bulbs are strung on St Patrick's spire, while the mammoth cross on the steeple was a blaze of light.
