Just a reminder that the names of some of the streets were changed in the late 1890's to prepare the City of Troy for the Annexation of Lansingburgh. These name changes particularly affected what was then North Troy (includes the 10th & 13th Wards). A resident of North Troy may have stayed in the same house while the name & number of the street changed. It is helpful to keep this in mind when checking addresses in the Troy City Directories. North Second Street became Fifth Avenue. North Third Street became Sixth Avenue. North Fourth Street became Seventh Avenue. (North First Street actually still exists but is an overgrown alleyway & difficult to find). There were several secondary streets whose names were changed as well at that time. M. Alice Mangan
