In the 1878 Directory I have, the West Troy(Watervliet)& Cohoes part contains a lot of Ryans. 1 Catherine Ryan , widow,house 64 1/3 Erie 4 Patrick Ryans, laborer,h ,17 Genesee " , laborer h 99 Ohio ,machinist h 64 Union Street , switchman, h. Albany Avenue,n.West Troy bridge,G.I. 1 Mrs Patrick , H 94 Burlington No Henry listed In the Lansingburgh part there are 12 more Patricks and 5 Catherines all widows In Cohoes there is 1 Catherine, 1 Henry and 7 Patricks Hope this helps. My father's cousin who lived in Cohoes was called "Harp" Ryan and I remember when he had an "eatery" in Cohoes where the parking lot of the Cohoes commons is located.
