    1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Update - Marriage Index Project
    2. Bill & Cathy McGrath
    3. The following update on the status of the Rensselaer County Marriage Index project will be of interest to list members. A. Currently the following volumes of the Marriage Index with their 32,000 names are on-line on the Troy Irish Genealogy website www.rootsweb.com/~nytigs/ Vol. 1 5,000 marriages with 10,000 Names January 1908-April 1913 Vol. 2 5,000 marriages with 10,000 Names April 1913-July 1918 Vol. 3 2,000 marriages with 4,000 Names May 1918-April 1920 Vol. 4 & 5 4,000 marriages with 8,000 Names April 1920-January 1924 B. Photocopies of documents on file OR of the record in the marriage book for these 16,000 marriages, are available from the County Clerk's Office for a fee of $5.00. Separate request forms for EACH Volume with the necessary instructions can be printed from the TIGS website. C. TIGS workers and volunteers are now working on the index for Volumes 6 and 7 which has another 4,000 marriages and 8,000 names. To date all the Grooms names have been scanned and pdf files of the scanned pages are being sent to those volunteers who indicated they were interested in data entry for this phase of the project. The Brides names still have to be scanned and as usual we can always use help in the scanning process. Also, if there are other individuals on the TIGS mailing list who may be interested in doing some data entry work for this project, please email me off list at seamus@nycap.rr.com to see what is involved. D. The first 7 volumes of the Marriage Index were easy to work with as ALL of the important data elements were posted on the index pages. The index for Vol. 8, however, is a different story. Only the Grooms and Brides names, along with a page number, was posted to the index. Two examples of the posting are: NAMES OF GROOM PAGE Zimmerman C. Leslie 53 Zapp Donald 128 So, before we can scan these pages, a look-up of the page number in the Marriage Book itself must be made to obtain the marriage number and the date of the marriage for each name on the index. We will need local area volunteers to help with this index as it will take some time to look up the 4,000 names. Photocopies of all the pages in the Vol. 8 index have already been made and now we need volunteers to post the marriage number and the marriage date to the photocopied index pages. If anyone would like to help with these lookups, please email me off list at seamus@nycap.rr.com . Regards, Bill McGrath TIGS Project Coordinator Clifton Park, NY
