While emphasizing his commitment to a common school system Draper questions whether to put all students on the same career track. There seems to be too much of an inclination in this country to teach boys that they must reach the top of the ladder and must be satisfied with nothing but the President of the United States. Draper would rather see more boys put on a vocational track.He thought it a mistake to make a poor professional man out of a boy who would make a high class craftsman.
