I remember going to grade school in the 50s at St Francis de Sales with a John O'Brien and his brother although the brothers name escapes me right now. If I remember correctly they lived on Pinewoods ave. My grandmother, Margaret Walsh Shea, lived on Pawling accross from the point of Pinewoods so John and his brother and I walked home together often because I was picked up from there when my father got out of work. Thank you, perhaps your John was a grandson to my John, the Irish naming tradition would fit.
