    2. Thursday May 22 ,2008Troy Record Article 100years ago Friday May 22 , 1908 “The Carrington trial is halted because a juror, Frank Powers from Hoosick Falls has been debilitating to him. He has stayed for 3 weeks at the Mansion House Hotel and first developed Pinkeye,now he has stomach trouble and a nervous collapse,according to Dr Elmer E. Hull. Dr J.P.Marsh corroborates adding that Power suffers nervousness bordering on hysteria due to homesickness. Judge Addington of Albany County allows Powers to return home ,with a court appointed escort, for the weekend. Three Lansingburgh men have been arrested for stealing shirts from a neglected freight car on the 114th Street side of the tracks.An unidentified citizen finds a stash of shirts under a porch and reports it to the police. Investigators determine the shirts were taken from a Boston and Maine freight car.The investigation leads to Frank Spotton, a brushmaker,discovered in a saloon with 4 new shirts in a bag. He tries to convince police they are seconds he bought , but then confesses,telling about his accomplices,William Beattie and Calvin Fossmire.They all plead not guilty, Spottens confession notwithstanding.
