There are general records on the Marshall Infirmary at the Rensselaer Co. Historical Society in Troy, contact the research librarian. http://www.rchsonline.org/library.htm The Marshall Infirmary opened in 1851 and closed in the 1950's. Awhile ago, I contacted the NYS Office of Mental Health, who informed me they do not have patient records for the Marshall Infirmary, and that there were no regulations at that time for the disposition of patient records in institutions such as this. They also stated that in addition to patients with "insanity," part of the Marshall Infirmary was for acute care with some terminally ill patients. I also contacted the NYS Archives but they could not help me, either. If your great aunt was involuntarily committed there must have been a court order to do so. Some years ago in Oklahoma researching a similar situation my wife and I discovered the records from the 1890's were sealed. Jim Owens ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna K.
