> > Does anyone know if the following address is in the 8th Ward: > > 121 N First St > Did you check the map on the 1875 8th Ward page? It would at least show the streets, but not the numbers. The first census that I have found that gives the exact address is the 1880 US census. However, a directory lookup would tell you exactly where your family lived. Maybe someone in Troy, when in the library can do a lookup for you. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Hi Pat, Yes, I checked the map on the 1875 census - that's what led me to ask just where 121 N First intersects. Common sense it would be one or two blocks north of the central dividing street between north and south streets/avenues. I just couldn't tell from the map just where the 8th ward lies in relation to the whole of Troy. In any event I believe that my ancestor may be the one listed in the 8th ward on the 1875 census - but only documentation such as a city directory could confirm this. I doubt if there were two Clayton's in Troy with the same given name at that time period. I believe that my ancestor arrived in Troy in either 1871 or 1874. Thanks again for your reply and kudos on your website.
