The result has been that anarchists have gathered in America from every nation under heaven. Ours is the only country where they are not hunted down by the police and prevented from expounding their vicious views. The result of this widespread dissemination of anarchist literature is seen by the recent developments in this country. A President was shot,riots have occurred,a priest was stricken down while saying mass, a police chief has been attacked in his own home. It is time that this condition of things should be stopped. America was, it is true, founded as a haven for the downtrodden of every kind and country. But the founders were men who desired a new home, not to permit rapine and murder , but to live lives of usefulness and worship God without let or hindrance.Now that the nation has been built, its preservation is essential. Its freedom must not be turned into license. Inflammatory speeches , acts of hatred and doctrines that would tear down the mighty structure which our fathers built must be prevented at any cost. The Record believes Roosevelt is right to refuse the mails to this paper and says If however there is any technicality through which his argument is faulty, the legislatures at Washington,should immediately pass another act which will cover the point and abolish for all time the widespread circulation of a journal so destructive to American liberty.
