Supporters of a greater Troy have had an eye on the municipality across the river ever since Lansingburgh was annexed to Troy in 1900. The boosters would like to absorb Green Island as well. The Arsenal City (Watervliet) has assigned City Attorney Albert J. Danaher to draft an annexation bill for submission to the state legislature. Healy of School 5 wants his school moved to the top of the list for building inspections. He says attendance has dropped sharply the last 2 weeks, since the terrible school fire in Ohio, with parents keeping their kids home, because of unsafe flooring at School 5. Former judge Lewis E. Griffith leads a delegation of Troy war veterans to Albany in support of legislation that would give survivors of recent conflicts an advantage in applying for civil service jobs. Griffith wants to extend the privileges of the Cobb bill which adds an extra 10% to the score of civil service applicants to the veterans of the Spanish American War, the Boxer Rebellion in China and the Philippine Insurrection. Griffith says because of their war service the veteran is better than you, better than anyone, who failed to respond.
