Some Troy saloon owners have gotten around this by converting residential spaces above their bars into Sunday serving areas. They run pipes through saloon ceilings in order to have beer on tap for Sabbath customers. Only those who could be trusted will be let in. The police can’t force their way into locked saloons on mere suspicion. They have to open unlocked doors and find evidence of alcohol sales. They hit paydirt in two saloons on Fourth Street in South Troy at Patrick Murray’s place, where they confiscate a partly full beer glass as evidence. At John Dunn; s place there is no beverage found but several persons were there. Dunn and Murray are released on bail. Rev W.W.Brunk of Hedding Methodist Church calls on his congregation to take ecumenical, bipartisan action against saloons."
