Wednesday February 20 2008TroyRecord Article100yearsagoThursdayFebruary20, 1908 “A Glens Falls man is in critical condition after invading his wife’s home in Fort Ann and threatening to kill her family. Beecher Faber is shot by his father in law, John Nelson, who turns himself in. Faber married Flora Nelson two years ago and soon compelled her to support him. Flora has recently been released from a local house of refuge after serving years confinement for being a disorderly person. Andrew W. London, A spokesman for the Oakwood Avenue neighborhood group, meets with Mayor Mann who wants him to enforce a 1901 ordinance requiring streetcars to run on Oakwood Ave every 10 minutes. The traction company is currently up to every 20 minutes. John C. Ross of the Ross Valve Company tells the Mayor he can walk faster to Union Station than wait for the streetcar service. He is saving 60 cents a day (about 10 dollars in today’s money). The Mayor says he cant promise action until his corporation counsel George B. Wellington returns from out of town.” Photo of the day Troy Record Wednesday February 20, 2008 1913 photo of Philip O’Neill on his fourth birthday.
