FridayMarch 14 , 2008Troy Record Article 100years agoSaturday March 14,1908 And Sunday March 16 Troy Record re Monday March 16,1908 FRIDAY “Police are investigating an apparent suicide attempt that was suspiciously slow in getting reported to them this morning.Marguerite Marione of 12 Liberty Street is being treated at Troy Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Marione reportedly shot herself with a 30 caliber revolver at 8 ;30 this morning but police aren’t notified until 90 minutes later,during which time Marione received no medical treatment. James Sheeran, a neighbor, called police by the request of Marione’s sister, Mrs Antonio Rich. He made 3 attempts to get a doctor to come to the home before calling police.Elizabeth Visk acts as an interpreter for police for the sisters. Mrs Joseph Cocco heard the shot and was the first person to find Marione wounded. She then called Mrs Rich and another sister to the scene and had Mrs Rich ask Sheeran to call for help. The sisters tell investigators Marione wanted to die due to despondency over recent ill health. Police have questions when they don’t find the shell from the gun. Marione says she threw it out the window. Police ask where is the husband Anthony.? They go to his work place near the Waterford Barge Canal but cannot find him. SUNDAY Police catch up with Anthony Marione on Sunday afternoon, who tells them that when his wife shot herself he ran away on the advice of relatives who warned him he would be suspected and sent to prison. The police arrest him for disorderly conduct to keep him while sorting things out. Marguerite and Anthony were married last September 15 and Marguerite, now able to talk to District Attorney William P. Powers, says he has always been affectionate and faithful. She says the shooting was accidental and the doctors now say she is expected to recover. School 5 is temporarily closed due to a huge drop in attendance for fears of student safety. In one classroom only 17 out of 37 are in.The school expects to be closed no more than three or four days.
