Sunday February 24,2008 TroyRecord Article 100years ago Monday February 24,1908 “The entire excise committee of the Ministerial Union of Troy has resigned, leaving in question the organizations petition to have Mayor Elias P. Mann from office.They announced the resignation at a crowded meeting at the Central YMCA Hall this morning,during which the Union sends mixed messages to the Mayor. While again upholding Rev.George E. Stockwell petition accusing the mayor of failing to enforce the state law against saloons opening on Sundays, the organization approves a resolution congratulating Mann for finally enforcing the law yesterday.The crackdown yesterday was so complete that not a single person was arrested in the entire city, a fact that the ministers credit to the closing of the saloons. A new five man excise committee is formed .They are; Rev Cecil J. Armstrong of River Street Church of Christ; Rev Edwin Genge of Levings Methodist Church;Rev J.R. Lewis of First Congregational Church; Rev George P.Perry of First Baptist Church and Rev Charles H. Walker of First Presbyterian Church of Lansingburgh. **************It's Tax Time!
