    1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Watervliet Upper Burial Grounds
    2. Watervliet used to have a cemetery west of the Boght Road, north of the Fenimore Trace Apartments on Nineteenth Street, supposedly about twelve acres in size. On an 1891 map the cemetery seemed to have been north of where 26th Street would be if the road extended that far west - which would put it well north of Fenimore Trace. Some bodies were found at Fenimore Trace Apartments in 1973, though, after some had already been moved in 1972. I’m not sure when (if?) the cemetery was moved prior to those finds in the 1970s, or where those bodies were moved. At least one veteran had been buried there, Henry Shoemaker, Company H, Twenty-ninth New York Infantry. It was a largely German regiment https://armyhistory.org/09/29th-new-york-volunteer-infantry-regiment-a-forgotten-german-regiment-in-the-struggle-to-preserve-the-union/ Hopefully it will prove possible to find what became of him and the others there. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Mt-S77wZKfVE9OMlI4bER0OGc/edit?usp=sharing Chris

    3. Mary, My William Fogarty did have a sister Mary who lived in Troy.  It appears she never married however and spent her life living with her sister Anastatia Fogarty Stapleton and her family.  I am fairly confident that there are more Fogarty relatives in Troy and just have not yet been able to connect the dots.  Perhaps your Mary may be a cousin. 1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] 1927 Death Certificate
    2. I would recommend checking the NYS master index at the NYS Archives. The index is by year, then alphabetically. They are on microfiche and very easy to work with. If you find what you are looking for you can fill out a vital records request form and put it in the dropbox at the Archives. These are picked up daily and you usually get the certificate within 2 weeks. Dennis Marr N. Greenbush

    2. Shirley Ormsby
    3. To Susan Mocsny Thomas: I'm wondering if there is any connection between your Duffy's and mine. Great-grandmother Catherine (Katie) Duffy was born in Wisconsin in 1862. Her mother Mary (maiden name unknown and father (first name unknown) were from Ireland (place unknown). Catherine's younger siblings, Mary (1863?) and James W. (1866?) were born in Illinois. Other siblings were born in N.Y., Ellen (1870?),Stephen (1872?), Patrick (1870?), Anna (1877?). What brought my gggrandparents to Wisconsin? Perhaps because there were other Duffy's already there. What brought them to Troy via Illinois? The 1880 Troy census shows gggrandmother Mary a widow with seven children, ages three to seventeen. The oldest, Catherine married Thomas Cone of Vermont. Thanks to TIGS volunteers for sending me a picture of their grave in St. Mary's cemetery. Possible marriage names of Catherine's siblings: Mary Duffy Murray, Ellen Duffy Etue. My grandmother, Mary Francis Cone Christensen is the oldest of seven children of Catherine and Thomas . I'm hoping that there are descendants of Catherine's siblings who could help me fill in the blanks as I try to build the Duffy branch of my family tree. I am descended from a Thomas Duffy, b. 1830 in Ireland (place unknown and may possibly have been born in Troy). His wife was Rosanna Fitzpatrick, b. 1823, born in Belfast, Ireland. She emigrated from Ireland with her parents to Albany, NY. They married in Albany in 1847 and her obituary has her husband listed as Mr. Thos. Duffy of Troy, N.Y. They were in the Grand Rapids area of Wisconsin by the time their first child, James Duffy was born in 1850. They went on to have a total of five children: James, George Thomas (my great grandfather), Rosetta (who married Cornelius "Con" Kenevan), Stephen, and Edward. Thomas Duffy died in Fordham, Wisconsin in 1864 and was buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Montello, Wisconsin. The following year, 1865, Rosanna moved to Oakland Township, near Austin, Minnesota to live with her son, George Thomas Duffy. She lived with him until her death in 1896. Of course I would love to have any information about either her Fitzpatricks of Albany or his Duffys of Troy! If you know either of these families, please contact me. I was also interested to see if anyone has Duffy or Fitzpatrick blood who has done DNA testing so I could compare results with mine. I have tested mine with Ancestry and uploaded the results to Family Tree DNA and have it on GEDmatch, as well. 1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Death Certificate 1927
    2. Christine Connell
    3. Susan - the state archives dont have the actual death certificates, but they have an index on microfiche that will tell you the death location and certificate number. This is explained here: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_gen_vitalstats.shtml The archives helped me locate place of death for my GGGrandfather, which was not where I supposed Otherwise you can just send $22 to NYS Health Dept and wait to see if they can locate a death certificate. Process is described here: https://www.health.ny.gov/vital_records/genealogy.htm Records for St Peter's (now closed) are kept at St Anthony's - 28 State St, Troy 12180 (518) 273-8622. I am not familiar with records requests at St Anthony's, They will not have a death certificate, and if the burial was in Cohoes, I would guess that wouldn't have anything. Calvary Cemetery in Cohoes was permanently closed in the 1950's. Still, maybe worth a phone call. Good luck! > On Jul 6, 2014, at 10:06 AM, SR <russell2855@bellsouth.net> wrote: > > City of Troy has responded that they do not have a death certificate for Miss Margaret Mahoney who died 4/18/1927 at 2617 Sixth St. in Troy.
