I have no idea whether I have a connection but since I have both Dunns and Cooks in my line, I want to explore the possibility. Unfortunately I don't have much time to do so today. May 24 1847: 2 col 3. http://gravelyny.blogspot.com/2014/09/flowers-in-grave-yard-or-scene-on-mount.html Rather flowery prose (“AMID the pomp and pride and splendor of civilization, there is a solemn, yet delightful drug in the cup of death that awaits the wearied laborer—that drug is death to the human race!” etc.) making a rather simple case: Mount Ida Cemetery would be improved by flowers. 2. Christopher Philippo via
    3. “Muller said people have many questions and worries about what will happen to the museum’s collection and to the building in which it was housed.” Crowe, Kenneth C., III “Plans dropped for revamped Watervliet Arsenal Museum; Plan for renovation and reopening called off, military officials say.” Albany Times Union. August 8, 2014. http://www.timesunion.com/default/article/Watervliet-Arsenal-Museum-won-t-reopend-5676595.php Hopefully the TU will follow up on the unanswered questions raised in the article? If the main problem under consideration was security for visitors entering the base to get to the museum, presumably the museum could have been moved into a building in Watervliet outside of the Arsenal rather than closing it entirely. Possibly the entire Iron Building could be moved outside of the Arsenal? One wonders how long the new Path Through History signs for the Arsenal Museum will stay up around the area. Chris

    2. Christine Connell via
    3. At last night's meeting at HVCC, we saw some slides showing the proposed footprint for the HVCC dorms to be built at the site of the former Immaculate Conception monastery (and Nail Factory Cemetery). Demolition of the monastery and construction of the dorms is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2015. There are some plan documents on the city of Troy's website, at this link http://www.troyny.gov/cityprojects/hvccstudenthousing.aspx We were told that there would be no construction at the cemetery. Specific maps (surveys done by Hartgen Archeological Services) showing the location of the former Nail Factory Cemetery (aka Sixth Ward Cemetery) are here: http://www.troyny.gov/Libraries/City_Projects/Presentation061114.sflb.ashx On the slide labeled "Site Plan Current" the area of the cemetery is labeled "Existing Trees to Remain". Perhaps this project should include some (TIGS-sponsored?) interpretive signage of the former cemetery? http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nytigs/NailFactoryCemetery/NailFactoryCemeteryIntro.htm The next public discussion regarding the proposed dorm will take place during the City of Troy Planning Board Meeting scheduled for 6pm on Sept 11 at City Hall.

It is my understanding that the Family History Center in Loudonville will no longer accept orders for microfilms; they must be ordered directly by a patron via the internet through the LDS website, www.familysearch.org. Cost is $7.50 per reel, so have your credit card handy. Of course, I could be mistaken here, so contacting the local branch first is probably a good idea. LDS also makes microfilms available thru interlibrary loan to local libraries. Again, orders are made via internet, and cost is the same. Check with your local library to see if this is a possibility. This might be a better answer for those with a busy schedule or are some distance from the nearest FHC. This option has worked well for me. Tom Breedlove

I scanned the book at the library several years ago and used the scanned pages to build the Nail Factory Cemetery data base which is on the Troy Irish Genealogy website under the PROJECTS section.
