    2. To the person who asked about Reynolds evicted from Ballykilcline -- I did not find any evicted Reynolds during my Rutland-area research. So, to my knowledge, we don't know where the Reynolds evictees went. The Ballykilcline Society has one member now who is searching for Reynolds. As I recall, he lives in western Canada. But I do not know whether he has established a Ballykilcline connection or is exploring the possibility of one. He is researching five lines with Ballykilcline surnames. 3. Hi Mary, Thanks for your reply. Although your answer doesn't really answer my questions - it does pose some interesting thoughts about these Wynne's from Roscommon. My ancestor is James Wynne, born ca 1800 in either Sligo, Mayo or Roscommon. He married a Margaret Conlon ca 1820 and most likely in Riverstown, County Sligo. No marriage record found, however all of his children were baptized in Riverstown. James was crippled as a young man - he was kicked in the thigh by a horse and was never able to farm. He became a "hedge" teacher. By the time of the famine, his two sons, Michael and Patrick (my gggf), emigrated to America from Liverpool in 1847 (on two separate sailings). Michael and Patrick settled in Luzerne, Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties, PA. By 1850 their mother and sisters came over. James remained behind and according to a letter written in 1914, he was living with his "cousins" the McCormick's (whose son lived in Scranton, PA). He most likely died before civil registration. Michael had seven sons and only one married and had a daughter - so his line has died. Patrick married and had eight children and six lived to maturity and married. I descend (through my mother) to his youngest son, William Henry. He is my ggf. The Wynne surname is very prevalent in Sligo and Roscommon and I believe that many of them are most likely related to each other. Thanks so much for this info - it may come in handy one day - but I believe my Wynne's may be related to the Orange County, VT Wynne's who did come from County Sligo. I can tell you that several female Wynnes went to Rutland. At least one of them, Bridget Wynne McLaughlin, was related through her mother to the evicted Winters family who also settled in Rutland. 3. Mary, There were Wynne's from Ballykilcline who left for America. Do you know if they are the same Wynne's who settled in Orange County, VT? My ancestor Wynne, William Henry, was born in Lackawanna County, PA. However, he stated that his parents were born in Vermont on the 1900 census. This turned out to be totally incorrect as his father was born in Riverstown, County Sligo and his mother was born in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The fact that he mentioned Vermont has always led me to believe that somehow the Irish/Pennsylvania Wynne's are related to the Vermont Wynne's but I have never been able to make a connection. Secondly, the given names for both groups are very common (which is quite common anyway). Very curious, Rich Nichols, Greer, SC

The former Lelia P. Simmons married Charles J. Ackley in Troy in 1902. They moved to Utica in 1905. The Utica paper reported that Lelia left for Troy to attend a sister in laws funeral with plans to stay the holiday season and had a heart attack on January 14. The paper says her husband told friends a few days later he had traveled to Troy for his wife’s funeral and had seen her in her casket. He told another friend he had word by telegram of his wife’s heart attack, enabling him to hurry to Troy and see her before she died. When friends asked where to send flowers he said he had forgotten her mothers address .Shortly afterward he left Utica. When the Utica reporter visited the Ackley apartment he found their furniture in the custody of a neighbor. The neighbor showed the reporter a letter Lelia had written to her on January 23, more than a week after Lelia’s alleged demise. The Record sends a reporter to the Simmons house at 3229 -6th Avenue to interview Lelia, who says her husband was confused when he told neighbors of her demise sand the Utica paper mistook the story. She says he is now in Amsterdam doing temporary work. The Utica Press learns her husband submitted his wife's death notice to that city’s newspapers, and urged friends not to go to Troy for the funeral. He is now accused of exploiting the story to get charitable donations. The Record reporter interviews Lelia a second time and now she says her husband occasionally goes on drinking bouts and when intoxicated has a compulsion to tell people that relatives of his have died. He was traumatized by losing his first wife and six of his children from that marriage over a span of 10 years. Since that time he has been mentally affected and broke down and sobbed saying he was sorry for the notoriety he has brought down upon his wife and himself.
