Hi If you go to the followingo URL you can look up births, deaths, marriages for Manhattan, Kings County, Queens etc etc. http://italiangen.org/vreclist.stm (I know it will come up as an Italian website but I have found Irish, german, etc names on it. 1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] My Irish research
    2. Rich Nichols
    3. I grew up being told that my Irish heritage was a "wee bit" at that. However, after many years of research - I have learned that I am truly quite Irish along with my English, German and French heritage. My Irish surnames are: WYNNE, CONLON, FLANAGAN, MCCABE, CLAYTON, CUNNINGHAM, O'MELIA, KENNEDY, HOEY, MCCRACKEN, CONNOLLY The Wynne's and Conlon's are from Riverstown, County Sligo (LDS & Sligo Family Heritage Centre) The Clayton's and Cunningham's are from Cloyne, County Cork (ancestry.com - English census records) The O'Melia's are most likely from County Mayo although claim to have come from Dublin The Hoey's and Connolly's are from Meigh, County Armagh (LDS records) The Flanagan's from Killalon, County Meath (family relative) The McCabe's from Finnea, County Westmeath (family relative) The McCracken's claim to be from Belfast, County Antrim and related to Henry Joy McCracken (family lore) The Kennedy's are unknown! All these Irish ancestors have been traced right here in the US via mail Historical Societies, visits to graves, ancestry.com; family members - who only provided names but did not know where their ancestors came from, the County Heritage Centres in Ireland and other avenues. And I was brought up to believe that I was just a "wee bit Irish." This vast data of information has enabled me to trace some lines back to the late 1700's. I would love to be able to trace them back further but as most know - Irish records are very inconsistent and scarce beyond church records. Rich in Greer, SC

    2. Rich Nichols
    3. Marilyn, et.al. Yes, ancestry.com is a blessing and true it was much less expensive when it began but agreed it had much less information than it does today. However, the LDS still outperforms ancestry with its vast collection of genealogical materials. However, the LDS has raised their borrowing prices that make it prohibitive for many who are on limited income. Now, according to the LDS website they plan on digitizing their entire collection and will put it online at no cost. This I am afraid it will take years as this too will be accomplished by volunteers and members of the Mormon church. You can read about it by going to their website www.familysearch.org and clicking on news. In fact you can register to view this new website - which is very limited at the moment. Another great website for the Irish - if any have not seen or been to it is: www.ifhf.brsgenealogy.com. Even the overseas Irish Family Heritage Centre (even though quite expensive) is still much less expensive than the actual travel to Ireland, unless of course, you want to walk the old sod of your ancestors Rich in Greer, SC
