    3. Hi Rebecca! Rats! I didn't even consider that these dates came before they started recording! My (great) grandmother's mother-in-law was buried at Mt. Ida. I could write to them...but then again I don't have the exact date. Anyone who would have known the family's church has passed on. I could look on Ancestry.com collection of newspapers. Do you know when Troy started to keep death records? I really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful Easter! 2. FridayMarch 14 , 2008Troy Record Article 100years agoSaturday March 14,1908 And Sunday March 16 Troy Record re Monday March 16,1908 FRIDAY “Police are investigating an apparent suicide attempt that was suspiciously slow in getting reported to them this morning.Marguerite Marione of 12 Liberty Street is being treated at Troy Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Marione reportedly shot herself with a 30 caliber revolver at 8 ;30 this morning but police aren’t notified until 90 minutes later, during which time Marione received no medical treatment. James Sheeran, a neighbor, called police by the request of Marione’s sister, Mrs Antonio Rich. He made 3 attempts to get a doctor to come to the home before calling police.Elizabeth Visk acts as an interpreter for police for the sisters. Mrs Joseph Cocco heard the shot and was the first person to find Marione wounded. She then called Mrs Rich and another sister to the scene and had Mrs Rich ask Sheeran to call for help. The sisters tell investigators Marione wanted to die due to despondency over recent ill health. Police have questions when they don’t find the shell from the gun. Marione says she threw it out the window. Police ask where is the husband Anthony.? They go to his work place near the Waterford Barge Canal but cannot find him. SUNDAY Police catch up with Anthony Marione on Sunday afternoon, who tells them that when his wife shot herself he ran away on the advice of relatives who warned him he would be suspected and sent to prison. The police arrest him for disorderly conduct to keep him while sorting things out. Marguerite and Anthony were married last September 15 and Marguerite, now able to talk to District Attorney William P. Powers, says he has always been affectionate and faithful. She says the shooting was accidental and the doctors now say she is expected to recover. School 5 is temporarily closed due to a huge drop in attendance for fears of student safety. In one classroom only 17 out of 37 are in.The school expects to be closed no more than three or four days. The sporting man label is usually said referring to a gambling and related activity.. In the divorce hearing the husband is saying he wants custody because she is not fit. Nellie, represented by John P. Kelly, says she has not refused him the right to see the child but he hasn’t bothered since January 1. She says he came spooking about her hall once but did not come in to see the child. James attorney,Thomas F. Powers says he has avoided contact with his son on the advice of counsel. Nellie’s lawyer, requests a delay in the hearing saying his client was only served with the writ at 10:30 last night. The judge allows Gorman to have his son on Sundays and Thursdays from 10-5 pending the outcome of the divorce proceedings. James sister will transport the child on those days. Kane face disciplinary hearings this morning for failure to suspend the patrolman for apparent drunkenness on duty the night of March 2. Patrolman John Ray testifies he encountered Heenan resting against a lamppost near the end of the night shift. Ray and another policeman helped him back to the Third Precinct station, where he stumbled twice on the way to the bunk room. Ray says Heenan had been sick for the past 2 weeks and hadn't recovered from his cold. Third Precinct Captain Byron Green testifies he received a call from Sgt Kane the next morning complaining about the patrolman's condition and Green advises the sergeant to conduct an investigation. Green tells the Public Safety Commissioner Francis N... Mann he had encountered Heenan and he had seemed perfectly sober. Green spoke with Heenan on March 3 and Heenan admitted he took a drink the previous night.Sgt Kane testifies he told Sgt James H. Quest that he didn't like the condition Heenan was in and he was going to report him. Patrolman Heenan says he was seized with a sudden cold after he saw Capt Green and his friend Frank Lee, a carpenter, happened to pass by and offered Heenan a good stiff drink. Lee went and got him a drink and shortly thereafter Heenan said he became faint. Lee assisted him back to the station but he felt better and resumed his beat. Heenan thinks his drink reacted badly with the cough medicine he was taking which contained morphine. Since Kane did report Heenan to the captain, Commissioner Mann acquits him but reserves judgment on Heenan.
