    1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Marriage records before 1880
    2. Marianne Arnold
    3. Kathleen, I read of your checking the four volumes of St. Mary's Church in Troy for Donna from Colorado. I hate to impose on your time, but I wonder if you could check for me, when you have a chance. I'm looking for a possible marriage between: Johh O'Brien, (also found as O'Bryan and O"Brian) and Margaret Lynch, around 1853, (family records) They were both born in Ireland and the record I have does not say if they were married in Ireland or the U. S. However, they had twin children, (Michael and Elizabeth, my great-grandmother) born or baptised May 3, 1856 in Troy. I also wonder if St. Peter's would have records I could get info on and how to go about it. I was thoroughly stiffed by the archdiocese when I was there a couple years ago and inquired. Were there other Catholic churches in existence in Troy that early? Also, does anyone know if there was a Catholic church in Green Island that early? I think they lived in Green Island, which I know is part of Albany county. However, all the info I've obtained about Green Island has been through Troy. This includes a listing in the 1854-1855 Green Island city directory, attached to the back of the Troy city directory, for a John O'Brian, carpenter, which was his trade. They did not stay in Troy for long and were in Chicago by the 1860 census and both had died before 1870. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. They are a real dead end! Thanks so much, Marianne Arnold, Virginia On Mar 24, 2008, at 4:02 PM, Kathleen wrote: > Donna, > > I have the four volumes of marriage records for St. Mary's Church > in Troy > which was founded in 1844 and I checked for your great grandparents > and > found no record.
