    3. I see no one has been nominated for List Administrator and I assume no one from the Troy area wants to take it on. I will happily help anyone get started taking over the list. It is not difficult. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. Be really careful with this site. First you need to know what records are available. Here is a site that will give your the years that RC church records exist: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/ Then you need to know that there are gaps in these records that are not mentioned. I have searched many Irish RC records in both Belfast and Dublin and know that the original registers can be in terrible condition with pages ripped out or just missing. Take county Laois, for instance. I searched every church register from the county both in Belfast and in Dublin and not one parish is complete! Therefore, if you do a research in these records and your family is not found, it is not conclusive, because there just might not be records available for your baptism or marriage that you are searching. Another thing... the database that is being used is faulty. The records were transcribed by unemployed people who had no experience in either genealogy or old time handwriting. If anyone has looked at old censuses, you know names and other data can be mis-transcribed. Then there is the search parameters on the site. For marriages, you can only search on one name. If you are looking for a John Ryan in Tipperary, there are probably hundreds in the same time period. But they don't give you the parish or the other name, so you would have to pay for each record to see it. Same problem with birth/baptisms, you can only search for the child's name, you can't put in the parents' names. There's more. While County Tipperary shows the whole county is online, there are no records for the Emly & Cashel Diocese included and anyone who does research in that county knows that about 2/3's of the county is in that diocese. So, while some have found their families, I recommend you be careful when using the site. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

You may nominate anyone, or nominate yourself. More than one nominee for each office is fine, and you can make as many nominations as you wish. If you have any questions about the duties of each office, here is the link to the charter: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nytigs/CharterPageNew.htm Anyone can make a nomination, whether you are a dues paying member or not. The nominees themselves must be dues paying members and able to attend the local TIGS meetings. Please contact me if you have any questions. Please participate and make a nomination! The nominations will close on Friday, April 25. I will then finalize the slate of proposed officers and post to the list. Elections will then begin on or about May 1, for dues paying members. 3. Hello, It was nice to see those of you again who were at the TIGS meeting this evening. Here is the website I was talking about. Put your wallets away before you start searching. Each record costs 5 euro or about $7.50- they have a mixture of RC, protestant, and civil records available. Available church record year ranges are given also. I have dropped a small chunk of change but have found some very useful pieces of my family puzzles. Thank you to Pat Connors for telling me about this site. http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/index.php<http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/indexphp> some tips: the search function will limit you to the first ten records if you don't put in a year. Enter "0" in the year and it will let you look at all years available. If you enter "0" for given name it will give you all first names for the surname you are searching. If you just enter a letter or 2 it will pull up any names that begin with that letter or letters. You can also limit it to a specific parish. Happy hunting. Michael

    2. I have been informed by the Redfront that they have to put us in the middle room tomorrow night, they have a group of 50 people in the backroom. We had reserved first but obviously they could not turn down this group for the 8 or 10 of us who may or may not eat. Will not be the best meeting scenario but it will work. 1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] 1875 Census
    2. Rich Nichols
    3. Hi Pat, Yes, I checked the map on the 1875 census - that's what led me to ask just where 121 N First intersects. Common sense it would be one or two blocks north of the central dividing street between north and south streets/avenues. I just couldn't tell from the map just where the 8th ward lies in relation to the whole of Troy. In any event I believe that my ancestor may be the one listed in the 8th ward on the 1875 census - but only documentation such as a city directory could confirm this. I doubt if there were two Clayton's in Troy with the same given name at that time period. I believe that my ancestor arrived in Troy in either 1871 or 1874. Thanks again for your reply and kudos on your website. I know that my Edward Clayton was living at the above address in 1879 and wonder if he was living there in 1875, which would confirm the same person. By the 1880 census he was living at 51 Depot St. You are great guys on this website and believe I have been to many. In fact St Peter's has been a tremendous help and I have discovered more children and deaths. Keep up the great work. Rich in Greer, SC
