    1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Trip to Ireland
    2. Donna K. Vaughn
    3. Just wanted to report that the trip to Ireland was wonderful! Perhaps we could post some pictures on our website (Jeanne, let me know what is reasonable to put up there, please.) For an itinerary of the places we visited, go to this link: http://www.cietours.com/affiliate/cietours/summary.rvlx?tourID=1663 The group, the driver, the people we met, all the sights--everything was fantastic. A really big highlight for me: The last full day there, my cousin Shannon, who lives in Paris, flew over to Dublin so that we could meet for the first time! We had found each other a couple of years ago, doing genealogy research on the internet, and have been corresponding via E-mail since then. She joined our group for the dinner and show at the Abbey Tavern, and then saw us off early the next morning when our bus left for the airport. It was a joy to meet a family member for the first time-- and in Ireland, from where our shared ancestor (third great-grandfather) came! Donna

    2. I was just a wee bit too young to be involved with Mame's activity but in 1943 and in 1946 I worked for Bumpstead Chevrolet. We were in a former factory building located on 6th Ave, or whatever street the railroad ran on. We overlooked the Central Police station, the front of various residences(?) on 6th Ave and the rear side of residences on State Street. I worked part time so when I came in the guys would tell me what I missed. In later life I realized the stories were probably embellished. When I was about 16, my girl friend worked in Grants Department Store. She looked about 20. She was approached by Mame to go to work for her! I don't think she did! Sure would like to get a copy of the CD, tell me how. I am in Florida now and will be in Indiana by next week. AL Cuerdon

    1. [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Slate of officer nominations
    2. Donna K. Vaughn
    3. Here is the proposed slate of officers for 2008-2009, based on nominations received so far: President: Kris Cooney Ayotte VP: VACANT Secretary: Kay Brearton Treasurer: Cathy McGrath Webmaster: Jeanne Keefe List Administrator: Bradford Miter Project Manager: Bill McGrath PLEASE NOTE that Vice President IS STILL VACANT! This is a wonderful opportunity for a local member to get more involved. Perhaps someone who usually comes to the meetings but is not currently an officer? Here are the duties according to the charter: you cover for the President if he/she is unable to attend the meeting; announce the meeting date/time/place to the list; and make a reservation each month for the dinner meeting based on RSVP's. Kris also followed up with guests who attended the meetings, but that would be up to you. Someone else could do the follow-up part if you do not wish to. Please think about it, and contact me or any officer, on or off list, to discuss further if you have an interest. Donna Outgoing President

    3. Mame Faye was the Aunt of my Uncle John's wife Marion. I do not know whether on her father or mother's side because it was not something discussed at length in the family. In any case my mother always made it clear WE were not related to her. Everyone knew her by sight in Troy and I once overheard my mother tell someone (little kids have big ears) that her friend Ouida Nealon waited on Mame Faye at the Up To Date Store in Troy. She said she was very fat (Ouida weighed about 90 pounds so how fat is not clear) and as Mame Faye tried on clothes my mother's friend was outraged because she didn't have any underwear on. I think this was in the 1950's because I remember my mother's friend working there around that time. How I wish my mother was still here so I could ask questions and get the real lowdown on the really interesting history of this area. 3. Dear Bette, I have not heard of any Sullivan's there. Have you looked at the Burden Works material on the website? That is where I found information that there was a Patrick Sweeney at 685 Burden next to my grandfather's house at 683 Burden. My aunt, Helen Sweeney, used to live in Albany and did some investigating at the Museum State Library and the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the Tower Building in Albany. She determined that John Sweeney was a grocer and newsdealer who lived at 683 Burden in the 1892 census. Do you know if South Troy was then called North Greenbush ? 3. I think a non-local could very easily take over as LA. It is not that I do not want to continue as LA, but I think it is time for a change and new Listers should be brought onto to the board to give it another insight. The LA is one way for all Listers to participate with all ongoings of TIGS. I would be happy to assist Brad with the LA. I could continue as assistant LA and since I attend most meetings, could be his proxy. As stated in the TIGS Charter: 5. All officers must be dues paying members of TIGS and be able to attend meetings in Troy. This could be done through proxy until the charter can be change which may take a couple of months. Lizette

    3. To the Officers of TIGS If you would consider changing the constitution/bylaws to allow for a non-NY resident to perform the function of List Administrator, I would be glad to take on the assignment. Of all the officer functions, this one could easily be maintained by someone living in cyberspace. Pat Connors, in a private exchange, has said he would back me up should I go on vacation. A Troy area resident could probably also be added to the list of administrators for backup. Or, a Troy resident could take the post of Administrator and appoint me as the backup and I could do most of the work. I will happily help anyone get started taking over the list. It is not difficult. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com ===NY-IRISH-GENSOC Mailing List=== Did you pay your 2008 Dues?
