    1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Who Was Lucy A. Wood Rowe
    2. Lynn Grice
    3. Bill, If you "Google" Lucy A Wood Rowe, you will find a link on the second page of "hits" that will take you to the obituary of William H Rowe as published in the NY Times on April 22, 1898. It states that William H Rowe was President of the Wayside Knitting Mill Company of Troy and was widely known as a philanthropist. Checking the 1880 Federal census for the City of Troy on Pat Connors' website www.connorsgenealogy.com I found that William H Rowe had a young daughter named Lucy. I would assume she died young and the building in Troy was dedicated to her memory. If you take a closer look at the building, there might be a cornerstone indicating the year it was erected. Lynn

    2. Bill & Cathy McGrath
    3. I wonder if anyone on the Troy Irish Genealogy List or the Rensselaer County List can shed any information on who Lucy A. Wood Rowe was. On Sunday, I marched in the Troy Flag Day Parade with the Troy Lodge of Elks. While momentarily stopped in the parade route, I was impressed with the building at 77-79 Fourth Street, just opposite Proctor's Theatre. Across the front of this impressive four story building was the inscription: LUCY A. WOOD ROWE MEMORIAL The brick and stone building was quite interesting architecturally with it's balustrade across the roof, four two story columns with Corinthian capitals and 3 one story columns with similar capitals. After living in Troy the first 34 years of my live I really never noticed this beautiful building. Bill McGrath Clifton Park, NY

    2. Dear Brad First let me say you are doing a great job. I usually never post more than one a day(its hard enough getting that out) but I did notice recently that one was "held" for the next day, thus creating 2 on the same day. Furthermore I usually only post to the website (see the above cc _ny-troy-genosc@rootsweb.com_ (mailto:ny-troy-genosc@rootsweb.com) ) ny, not individuals, although once in a while individuals email me to clarify or ask for the photo. I am not familiar with the SPAM filtering. Can you send us a copy of it? Our webmaster will probably respond as I think she will see this. I am going to be away next week so if you dont hear from me for a week that's why. Thanks for your looking into this Joyce In a message dated 6/6/2008 8:32:00 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, bradmiter@earthlink.net writes: Dear Joyce, As the new list administrator I am hot on the heels of a problem with your Troy Record posts being rejected by one member with an AOL address. I suspect AOL has put your address on the spam list for yumapark2 - perhaps when two or more of your posts hit on the same day.
