Please excuse the sending of a test message but there has been a problem with all Time-Warner RoadRunner subscribers to the list which caused them to be automatically UN-Subscribed by RootsWeb. This action started when RoadRunner rejected a message sent to the list yesterday morning. As there are 29 RoadRunner members, I have put back only 5 of them in hopes this test message shows the problem at RoadRunner has been corrected. Then I will restore all to the list. Monday May 4 through Wednesday May 6 ,, 2008 TroyRecord Article 100years agoTuesday May 3 thru Thursday May 6 ,1908 Monday-“The Carrington trial opens with the assistant District Attorney saying “over 15months, in 52 cases of taxes , the city received not one cent.” The prosecution bases its case on Handwriting analysis of doctored entries. The defense counters that a crime has been committed but not by Carrington. The defense scores a point when it gets Carringtons former boss, Thomas W. Hislop to admit that two other treasury employees regularly made entries in the ledger. Tuesday- Hislop is grilled by the prosecution. On page 16 they show an entry of C. E. Dudley Tibbits for 423.45 when it should be 1423.45. Hislop also shows another entry for Edward Murphy 2nd crediting him with 854.50 instead of 1854.50. When the defense gets the chance to cross examine, attorney Lewis E. Griffith questions Hislops competence. Wednesday-3rd day on the stand for Hislop.Griffith gets Hislop to identify other peoples handwriting , including former city clerk Charles Hagen. The defense asks Hislop if he was in the brick business with his uncle Robert Glass during part of his tenure? The defense implies Carrington is a scapegoat for political reasons.
