Gerry, I am always on the lookout for Burkes and Walshes from Troy because I know so little about my great-grandparents. One of my Paternal great-grandparents Richard Walsh lived in Troy for about 35 years before his dealth in 1806. His mother was Mary Burke who married John Walsh in Ireland, unfortunately I don't know where or when. My family was one of many who were all from Cork. Only problem is I haven't found one from Cork yet (Kerry, Mayo, Wexford, etc). If you know any Walshes in your family I love to know about them. Howdy JD, how is Georgia in this summer heat?? May I remind you in a most friendly manner, your ancestor was kicked off the McCarthy Building project for not installing toilets or a front door. It was finished by my Troy Boland ancestor, a Mr. CP Boland and his construction company. See below link!! A fine building it is to this day. HOwever you great granddad's list of accomplishments remains most impressive! http://www.archiplanet.org/wiki/McCarthy_Building<http://www.archiplanet.org/wiki/McCarthy_Building> Go Braves!! best, Michael
I am sending to the list links to a comic book produced by Troy resident, Amy Hallorhan.? Amy is the cousin of Mike McAlonie from TIGS Amy began researching neighborhoods in Troy and why they disappeared.? She obtained a grant to write about neighborhoods for school children.? She decided on Hoosick Street and interviewed many Trojans who grew up in that area.?To interest the kids she decided on a comic format.?This should prove interesting to TIGS members who had family around lower Hoosick Street and were mostly parishioners at St. Pete's, St. Pat's and St. Pauls. More Troy O'Briens (mine are from Albany and Watervliet) My great grandparents Michael and Rebecca Dolan O'Neil and their remaining children, my grandfather William and his sisters Mary and Sally, lived at 184 Fifth Avenue according to the 1900 Census. Their next door neighbors at 183 Fifth were the O'Briens who my mom remembered hearing about. My notes reflect that the census indicates that Mary O'Brien lived with her family at 183 Fifth Avenue in 1900. Mary was listed as head of the household and was born in Massachusetts. Her deceased husband's name was David. The other children that I have listed are Lawrence, John, Adelia (probably Amelia) and David. My notes record this last child as Daniel or David but its probably David after his father. This is the O'Brien family that my mother, who wasn't born until 1917, remembers hearing about. I don't know when Rebecca and her daughters left Fifth Avenue. I know that they were on 8th Street for a while and then followed my mother and her family to 106 Hoosick. A posting on the TIGS list on July 7, 2008 discussed the idea of capturing family and individual names from the various memorials in the local churches and putting them in a data base on the TIGS website. With the announcement of numerous church closings, this proposed project has even more relevence. As the response to the posting was quite positive, it was decided at the July TIGS meeting that we would go ahead with this project. Our plan is to: !. Do as many churches, Catholic and non-Catholic, as we can get volunteers. 2. List names from all memorials; stained glass windows, plaques, pew names, statues, etc. 3. Give a little history of each church, when it was founded, when closed etc. 4. Have a picture of the church on the website and, if feasible, pictures of the famous Tiffany windows or other notable memorials. So if this project interests you and you would like to volunteer to help build the data base, please write me off list at: seamus@nycap.rr.com Also, if you have a particular church you would be interested in, please mention that in the email. Regards, Bill McGrath TIGS Project Coordinator Clifton Park, NY

The name Joanna occurs frequently in Roman Catholic parish records where Latin is used in place of Irish, or the Anglicized, given names. My own great grandmother, Jane Mary, is recorded as Joanna. **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. If I am reading this right, your gr gr grandparents John and Johanna may be related to my Timothy O'Brien married to Catherine Costello. Perhaps Timothy and John were brothers??? If so you need to check out the Anacarty/Donohill area of Tipperary. My Tim and Catherine had their children around 1830's 1840's so Tim could have been the older son. They in Turn had Mary who married Phillip Ryan in 1859 and their children were also all born in Ireland during the 1860's and early 1870's. It is one of their children, Timothy Ryan who moved to Troy and was attended by a John O'Brien and William O'Brien as pall bearers at his death in 1918. I believe I may have more information I can give you on the area of Timothy O'Brien and Catherine Costello's marriage which could lead you to the Church and possible further information on your John O'Brien and Johanna Shea/Shay. I will check at home and get back to you. Is this son John buried in Troy? Do you have any birth information on him? I am about to send away for the death certificate on Timothy O'Brien in hopes it will contain further information. Thanks for your input, perhaps we can be of assistance to each other. None of the names listed are familiar with the exception of Johanna. I have seen it somewhere and will try to jog my memory. It was not pertinent to my search but I thought it an uncommon name for an Irish woman. I think it might have been the Canada census of 1881. Not sure...I think it was in a domicile close to a Michael Shea. I will try to find the Cohoes book in a bookstore and check the names of the Shea women whose pictures appear in that book. Many Irish came to this country through Canada. You would know if the dates cited were accurate. I found the Canada census on the family search run site by the LDS church. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M.
