A few years ago while looking for an ancestor, I obtained a transcript of a death certificate for a Catherine Smith. Albany sent me one but she is not in my family. so, I'm offering it to anyone who has this name in their family. It has a lot of information . It is a common name so I'll tell you she was from Scotland and lived in Philadelpia, PA. before living in Troy. She died in 1901, and was a widow. Please email me at kerijoco01@gmail.com -- Rita
copy and paste the email for you.. I am sending to the list links to a comic book produced by Troy resident, Amy Hallorhan.? Amy is the cousin of Mike McAlonie from TIGS Amy began researching neighborhoods in Troy and why they disappeared.? She obtained a grant to write about neighborhoods for school children.? She decided on Hoosick Street and interviewed many Trojans who grew up in that area.?To interest the kids she decided on a comic format.?This should prove interesting to TIGS members who had family around lower Hoosick Street and were mostly parishioners at St. Pete's, St. Pat's and St. Pauls. The Ireland GenWeb County Tipperary website has been updated. Webpages for the following civil parishes have been added: Ballymurreen, Galbooly, Moycarky, Twomileborris, Fertiana, Kilcooly, Buolick, Fennor and Gaile. These websites include maps of the civil parishes with all their townlands delineated, plus all the Family History Library films that are available for the civil parish with their numbers, also links related to the civil parish, the Samuel Lewis 1837 description of the parish from his books, A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, plus links to all the townlands located within the civil parish which also have webpages added on the site. There are 106 new townland pages, too numerous to cite. In total, there are now 69 civil parish and 1,241 townland webpages on the site. If you have the site in your bookmarks/favorites please note that it has moved from the rootsweb server to: http://www.irelandgenweb.com/~irltip/ Also added are more links, surnames and church records. If you have any comments, additions and/or corrections, please contact me off the list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Friday June 6, 2008 TroyRecord Article 100years agoSaturday June 6,, 1908 “Today is tag Day in Troy. The organizers have sent women to sell Tags , in streetcars, Union station, city & suburb streets. They estimate they will raise $5000.00 ($50,000 in today’s money). The tags are handsome in design and are printed in green and red. The face is a facsimile of the official Troy Week design, while the reverse side bears the plain inscription; ‘Troy Week Tag Day- June 6, 1908’. Hours before the Tag day starts, a policeman Martin, chases down a pair of meat market robbers, James McCooey and an accomplice, who steal lamb, beef and bananas, They meet the patrolman around 2am, who asks what they have in the basket. They run and he fires 4 shots into the air. It was Michael Connelly’s store at 574 River Street . The Mohawk- Hudson Humane Society commandeers a freight car filled with calves so tightly packed they cannot lie down. They appear not to have been fed or watered in several days, The car, discovered on Adams Street, and is sent back to Green Island for another car for 40 of the calves. The car is going from St. Albans to NYC.” PS if you click on the below link it will take you to the Troy Record newspaper website. See I told you so, McCarthy was a big political influence around town and he sort of was the Mayor one stage removed and he lived just a few blocks away from JED. He finally relinquished his Irish stronghold on the community and saw that a binding relationship with the McConnells was worth it because it tied Albany Irish and Troy Irish. jd ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael McAlonie" <mmcalonie@msn.com> To: <ny-troy-irish-gensoc@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 01, 2008 8:26 AM Subject: Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] McCarthy Building and MR JE Dollardesquire > Peter McCarthy born NY 1845 and wife Julia had about 10 kids, lived in 3rd > Ward at 1827 Fifth Avenue Troy in 1900. Any idea where Dennis O'Brien was from. This could be the deciding factor. Also do you know the time line? Timothy's mother Mary O'Brien was born in 1834 in Anacarty, Donohill, Tipperary which is where her parents Timothy O'Brien and Catherine Costello were married. She had a sister named Josephine which I know for certain but no idea of her other siblings. Could it be that Dennis was her brother? Do you have any birth information on him? Hey Squire Michael, Good to hear from you. The riddle has finally been solved. I always said my relative was the Builder and now your story comes to the front and it points out your relative was the Designer. If I understand correctly your relative went on to designing dog houses, soap boxes and match boxes while my relative gave up his house and farm to become the Troy Golf Club. What a coincidence! How is that for a direct strike from a rolling pin right to the temple, ouch!! Moved from beautiful downtown Atlanta to Costa Rica. Its even hotter here. But living healthier.
