    1. Re: [NY-TROY-IRISH-GENSOC] Members in Ireland
    2. Obviously Eddie is from Ireland as he identifies his location.? I know that we have had members in other countries. ***? Any list member out there from outside of the US raise your hand and be identified...... Maybe it is time to do a meet and greet on the list.? It has been some time since we did a roll call.? How about all list members send a message; who they are, where they live and the surnames they are researching......long time members may have this information but newer members could be helped greatly knowing who they are posting to and what help is available. One other reminder is that our Website has an "Irish Acts Of Kindness" page that members can turn to for lookups. My question to the listowner is - How many members do we have in Ireland and England? I mention England as well as many Irish left Ireland for England - with the hopes and intention to travel to North America and elsewhere - but remained in England for one reason or another. Are any of these members willing to assist with research in either Ireland or England? If any of our Irish brethren in Ireland or England are willing to help us - what parts or Ireland or England do they live? I realize that this is an imposition on our part and maybe we can work something out that benefits all. 3. Hi TIGS Listers, It was pointed out to me that we need to modify the subject line when replying to a previous post, particularly when you are giving information on individuals. This really is needed when a topic gets a large number of replies. Be SURE and place any SURNAMES in the Subject line in Upper Case so that a person searching the Archives will get hits on their surnames of interest. King O'Leary and his wife's bodies are found in an apparent murder suicide at Troy's toll gate house.Mrs O'leary is seated in a chair shot in the eye and her husband is on the floor shot behind the ear, with powder burns in his mouth. O'Leary ran a saloon in Albany on Washington Avenue until last year when he was stripped of his liquor license. They live at 21 Spruce Street. The 'King' showed signs of mental trouble before the saloon closed. He reported to the Albany police several times that he was robbed, once of a few hundred dollars worth of jewelry, but later told police he found the jewelry behind the bar. Most recently the O'Leary's had spent a lot of time at the toll gate house with H.A.Wilkinson , a brother in law, whose been ill recently. Wilkinson's wife, sister of Michael O'Leary, says she heard her brother pleading with his wife to let him have the revolver and later heard shots whereupon she rushed to the kitchen and found the bodies. The O'Leary's are taken to M. 3. Thanks to all welcoming me. Here is a little of who I am and what I know of where I come from. Well, the Troy Irish side anyway. (I am Polish on my Fathers side. And my Irish GtGt Grandfather was Lorenzo Warren the only English protestant in an Irish Catholic family) I was born in Troy Samaritan Hospital (1968 yep still a kid) and grew up on River Street. My mother was Teresa Banks daughter of Joseph and Nora Banks from 15th street. I think she would have been baptized at St. Francis down the hill. My grandfather's grandfather (Henry) bought property on 15th street from the Tibbits in 1867. My Grandmother's family was the Ahern family. I have seen it written Ahearn or Ahern, this side went to St. May's. Her Cosine was the mayor of Troy in the 1960 John Ahern. I have hit a few roadblocks on this side of the family. My Grandmother's mother was a Kelly from Liberty Street in Troy. I have some info on them but again hit a will. I have been able to contact some Banks family from Sligo Ireland and I think they are related. That is me, in a nut shell. If any one can direct me on any info on the Ahern or Kelly family I would love it. 2. Irene is still running like the Everready bunny. I will be taking a test tomorrow to work for the Census Bureau on the 2010 census. I worked on the 1990 and 2000 census. It was fun and interesting. It is hard to believe how much work is done before the actual census in order to direct the enumerators to where the people are. I did Nursing Homes, Hospitals and homeless people (from 1:00AM to 4:00 AM.) Got a $50 bonus for completing my shift! Also went out before the 2000 census to verify that buildings and housing units were the same as the previous census. I found one place where two expensive but small homes were demolished and one giant home built. AL and Irene

    2. Andrea, you are actually posting now. We are a mailing list not a message board. As you can see your message is going out to the whole list. Just happens to be a slow weekend with the holidays. Your message can be viewed by our other 199 members. I am going to ask that any other member that sees this respond that they do, someone must be out there. Welcome aboard. We do meet once a month, the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 at various sites. Since our VP is in Florida, I will be making arrangements for this months meeting to be held at the Park-Pub in Frear Park for the 18th of this month. Try to come and meet the group, atleast those of us who have not headed South for the cold weather. I know we can give you some work to do with one of our projects.....
